Arctic Marine Ecology + Biogeochemistry + Co-Production of Knowledge

The Marine Biomarkers Lab is equipped with an Agilent 8890 Gas Chromatograph coupled with a 5977C Mass Spectrometer (GC-MS), which allows for precise and accurate measurements of various compounds. The lab is primarily set up to conduct state-of-the-art analysis of highly branched isoprenoids, including IP25, which are unique biomarkers serving as proxies for primary production in Arctic sea ice. We have recently added an Agilent flame ionization detector (FID), enhancing our capabilities further by allowing us to analyze organic compounds, including fatty acids, in even greater detail and providing a more comprehensive understanding of the complex interactions within marine ecosystems.

We are also equipped for stable isotope sample preparation.
